McClellanville Arts Council Eggstravaganza: The Art of Sustainable Living

AlexanderGo behind the scenes in McClellanville to learn about raising chickens for eggs and meat. Take the Tour da Coops to meet local fowl and their overseers. Activities include a lecture on chicken culture, arts and crafts workshops using eggs and feathers, an exhibit of chicken photographs, and a chance to win a folk art chicken tractor in the shape of a hen.

Join us on Saturday, October 30, 2010 from 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. for our McClellanville Arts Council Eggstravaganza: The Art of Raising Chickens, the first in a series on the Art of Sustainable Living.  The Eggstravanza will begin at 10 am in the Gallery with a panel discussion on the Art of Raising Chickens ($5 each).  At the same time in the Studio there will be a workshop ($10 each)  making art with eggshells, feathers, egg cartons and more.  Lunch will be available at local restaurants from noon until 2 pm.  The self-guided Tour da Coops ($10 over age 15 and $5.00 members) is from 2 pm until 5 pm, followed by a reception at the McClellanville Arts Center.  A hand-built chicken tractor will be raffled ($5.00 a ticket) at 6 pm.  An exhibition in the Gallery will highlight photographs of local fowl and their homes and visitors will be able to vote ($1.00 a vote) throughout the day for their favorites.  Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day’s events.  Tickets are available on-line and at the McClellanville Arts Center, 733 Pinckney Street in McClellanville(843 887-3157).
